Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of The Lab Post website and services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

2. Account Terms

You must register with accurate information. You are responsible for your password and all account activity. Notify us at support@thelabpost.com of any unauthorized use. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Payment, Subscriptions, and Free Trial

The Student plan includes a 10-day free trial with a payment method required upfront. Cancel during the trial and you won't be charged. Scientist and Lab plans are charged immediately. Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance with no refunds for partial months. All payments are processed by Stripe.

Referral credits extend your subscription by 30 days per credit and are non-transferable. Price changes take effect at your next billing period with advance notice.

4. Cancellation and Termination

Cancel anytime via account settings or by contacting support. Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. We may terminate accounts immediately for Terms violations. Provisions that should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits) will survive.

5. Intellectual Property

The Service and its content are the property of The Lab Post. Academic papers delivered through the Service belong to their respective publishers and authors. We provide metadata, links, and summaries only, not full-text articles.

Paper matching uses a federated search pipeline that queries Semantic Scholar (Allen Institute for AI), PubMed (NCBI), OpenAlex (OurResearch), and arXiv in parallel. Results are reranked using GTE-reranker, an open-source transformer model developed by Alibaba-NLP. Paper metadata (titles, authors, journal names, identifiers) is sourced from these providers. Relevance summaries are generated by the Service and are not sourced from or endorsed by any publisher, institution, or data provider.

6. Acceptable Use

The Service is for legitimate academic research at accredited institutions. You retain rights to your research descriptions and grant us a limited license to use them to provide the Service. You agree not to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Submit false or misleading research descriptions, or descriptions designed to surface information for harmful purposes
  • Support or advance Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC) without appropriate authorization
  • Circumvent biosafety regulations or export control laws
  • Facilitate production of controlled or prohibited substances
  • Make clinical or treatment decisions based solely on automated content from this Service
  • Upload malicious code, disrupt the Service, or circumvent access controls
  • Share account credentials or provide unauthorized access

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these requirements.

7. Automated Summaries and Recommendations

The Service generates paper summaries automatically. These may contain errors and are for informational purposes only. They are not peer-reviewed, not a substitute for reading the full paper, and do not constitute medical, clinical, legal, or professional advice.

Recommendations are matched algorithmically and may not reflect all relevant literature in your field.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. We do not warrant uninterrupted, secure, or error-free operation. Automated summaries may not be complete or current.

9. Limitation of Liability

THE LAB POST SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM your use of the Service, third-party conduct, content obtained from the Service, or unauthorized access to your data.

Total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid in the three months preceding the claim.

10. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms with at least 30 days' notice for material changes. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes agreement.
